Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormones are an important part of the endocrine system in our bodies and when they become deficient, excessive or unbalanced, health problems and even cancer may occur.

Symptoms of hormone imbalance include:
• Moodiness
• Fatigue
• Loss of libido, or sexual enjoyment
• Hot flashes
• Dryness
• Thinning hair
• Heavy or painful periods
• Insomnia
• Depression or Anxiety
• Foggy thinking

If you are experiencing these symptoms, if your sense of well-being is affected or if you’re concerned about cardiovascular disease or osteoporosis, you should consider natural hormone replacement therapy. Many of our patients who have tried natural hormone replacement therapy have noticed a dramatic improvement.

Dr. Marden understands that each person experiences hormone imbalances differently and will work with you to design a customized plan to regain hormone and health balance.

We work with an excellent local compounding pharmacy, who will custom-make your hormones in a strength and form that is right for you. Bioidentical hormones are available in topical creams and gels (transdermal application), capsules, suppositories, long lasting pellets, and sublingual troches (lozenges).

Testosterone Therapy

A woman’s testosterone levels naturally change throughout her life, her menstrual cycle, and even at different times of the day. A woman with low testosterone does not contain enough to help produce new blood cells, maintain sex drive, or boost levels of other reproductive hormones.
Testosterone belongs to a group of hormones known as androgens. Testosterone levels affect:

  • fertility
  • sex drive
  • red blood cell production
  • muscle mass and fat distribution

Most people think of testosterone as a male sex hormone, but everyone requires a certain amount. While males have more testosterone than females, female adrenal glands and ovaries produce small amounts of this hormone.

Low testosterone can cause one or more of the following symptoms in women:

  • sluggishness
  • muscle weakness
  • fatigue
  • sleep disturbances
  • reduced sex drive
  • decreased sexual satisfaction
  • weight gain
  • fertility issues
  • irregular menstrual cycles
  • vaginal dryness
  • loss of bone density

The two main causes of low testosterone are:

  • diminishing levels of the hormone as a normal result of menopause and aging
  • problems with the ovaries or the pituitary or adrenal glands.

Testosterone decreases naturally as a woman ages. Levels of other hormones, such as estrogen, also reduce over time, especially when a woman reaches menopause.

Around the time that menopause begins, a woman may be more likely to have less testosterone because the ovaries are producing fewer hormones.

Also, medications that combat the side effects of menopause can lower testosterone levels. One such medicine is oral estrogen.

Problems with the ovaries and adrenal glands can also cause lower levels of testosterone. A woman may have reduced levels if her ovaries have been removed, for example, or if she has adrenal insufficiency, which means that the adrenal glands do not work correctly.

A doctor may administer testosterone injections or pellets, expecting these treatments to have the same effect on women as on men: raising energy levels, decreasing fatigue, and increasing the sex drive.

Vitamins & Supplements

Dr. Marden selects vitamins and supplements that utilize the same potencies and ultra high-quality ingredients used in clinical research studies.

We offer comprehensive multivitamins to unique formulations that target cardiovascular health, cognitive health, hormone modulation, weight management, and much more.

Megaburn injections

Mega-Burn Injections are a combination of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that are necessary nutrients for our bodies. When taken in this combination and in conjunction with exercise and calorie reduction, many people report an increase in their metabolism, a loss of inches and/or pounds, more energy, and other benefits!

B12 Injections

B-12 is an essential water-soluble vitamin that plays an important role in many functions in the body including,:

  • DNA Synthesis
  • Energy Production
  • Nerve Cell Health
  • Red Blood Cell Formation
  • Neurological Function

If you are deficient in this vitamin, using an injectable B12 is a quicker way to bring levels up to start enjoying the benefits.

Vitamin D3 injections

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium. Along with calcium, it is vital for strong, healthy bones. Vitamin D also:

  • Supports muscle health
  • Plays a role in the immune system
  • Aids in cell growth
  • Reduces inflammation, which can lead to illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer
  • Regulates blood pressure and supports cardiovascular health

Vitamin D can be taken orally, but if you are severely deficient, in order to get levels to normal more quickly, injections can be beneficial in your treatment.

Vaginal PRP Therapy

Many women, even in a time when discussing sexuality has become so open and accepted, still are reluctant to bring up these issues with their doctors. Decreased sexual pleasure for a woman can stem from poor lubrication, pain with intercourse, the vaginal canal being too loose (less sensation) or too tight (discomfort), and difficulty or inability achieving an orgasm. Certainly, a low sex drive, or libido, can also occur, or even develop, alongside the other physical issues. These issues can greatly affect a woman’s self-esteem and thus result in significant stress between partners.

Our bodies have a remarkable capacity to heal themselves. Regeneration of new tissue is accomplished by the natural production of stem cells. PRP involves concentrated platelets, rich in bioactive proteins, which release growth factors to stimulate cellular regeneration and accelerate tissue repair. The benefits of PRP were initially used in wound healing, dentistry and the treatment of sports injuries, but now have evolved to address aesthetic concerns, sexual wellness/dysfunction, overactive bladder and urinary incontinence. PRP is one of the most advanced, effective natural treatments for cellular repair AND rejuvenation throughout the body.

PRP for Hair Loss

While fewer women suffer from hair loss, the hair loss in women tends to be more severe and less socially accepted, not to mention, fewer medical solutions are offered and designed for women. This is once again where P.R.P differs. This procedure has shown better results in women than men as women with genetic hair loss are more likely to have more inflammatory cells around the follicles. This is of course not to say that the procedure is only for women. This hair loss therapy also has positive results on men.

PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy – is an all natural, no-surgery, no-drugs and no-expensive-ointment solution for hair loss. Those growth factor-filled platelets are then injected into the scalp to stimulate new-hair growth, decrease hair loss and make the hair grow thicker.

According to the American Heart Association, 50% of men and 64% of women who die suddenly of Coronary Vascular Disease have no previous symptoms. Early detection is crucial for proper treatment for sustained recovery.

There is an approach that detects meaningful disease and allows for monitoring of efforts to address hardening of the arteries. It is noninvasive, takes about 15 minutes and is covered by most insurance companies.

It will tell you whether you are forming plaque, the lesion that is present in almost all heart attacks and strokes. And it is used in research to assess the effects of treatments offered to treat vascular disease of the heart, brain and other organs.

This approach is called Carotid Intima Media Thickness scanning. We offer it to determine which patients need more proactive measures to PREVENT heart attack and stroke. We use Vasolabs, a provider whose commitment to consistent process gives me the confidence to rely on their results in making treatment recommendations. It is an enhancement of carotid duplex that provides more information that affects efforts to slow or regress atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).

Cardiac Risk Assessment

Cardiovascular disease refers to a number of conditions related to the heart or blood vessels. These include hypertension (high blood pressure), coronary artery atherosclerosis (build-up of fatty deposits in blood vessels supplying the heart), cerebrovascular atherosclerosis (build up of fatty deposits in blood vessels supplying the brain) and peripheral vascular disease (blockage of large blood vessels in the legs or arms), to name a few.

Such conditions, if not properly treated, may lead to a cardiovascular event such as acute heart failure, myocardial infarction (heart attack), angina (chest pain), thrombosis (abnormal blood clot in a blood vessel) or cerebrovascular accident (stroke). Other factors such as smoking, obesity and family history can contribute to the risk of a cardiovascular event.

We have joined with Boston Heart Diagnostics to provide a Cardiac Risk Assessment. Boston Heart Diagnostics uses proprietary blood tests, available only from them such as the Boston Heart HDL Map, the Cholesterol Balance test, Advanced Risk Markers, Genetic Tests, as well as the metabolism of glucose (sugar) in your body, all of which may affect your heart health. Your Boston Heart Cardiac Risk Assessment results in a personalized treatment plan that is tailored just for you. With a Boston Heart Cardiac Risk Assessment, you have taken an important step toward prevention — and improving your heart health!

Over the course of a woman’s life, the effects of childbirth, weight fluctuations and the aging process can stretch the skin, loosen the muscles and damage the collagen of the vaginal wall. This can lead to several uncomfortable symptoms such as: vaginal laxity, vaginal atrophy, involuntary bladder leakage, dryness and discomfort or pain during intercourse. Traditionally, these symptoms could not be effectively treated without invasive methods or surgery. FemiLift™ now makes it possible to quickly and easily stimulate the vaginal area to “heal” itself without any incisions or downtime.

FemiLift – for women
For treatment of:

  • Vaginal laxity, Vaginal atrophy, Decreased libido, Painful intercourse, Bladder leakage

Endometrial Biopsy

The endometrial biopsy is a medical office procedure that is used to remove a sample of the lining of the uterus. The tissue subsequently undergoes a histologic evaluation which is supplied to Dr. Marden to aid in a diagnosis of symptoms which can include abnormal bleeding and infertility issues.

An endometrial biopsy involves inserting a thin, flexible tube through the cervix and into the uterus. The tube is used to gently scrape a small amount of tissue from the endometrium and then remove the tissue samples for evaluation.

Endometrial biopsy
For treatment of:

  • Abnormal bleeding, Infertility issues

For treatment of:

  • Abdominal and/or pelvic pain, Abnormal bleeding

If you have had a Pap smear that resulted in abnormal results, the next step is usually a colposcopy.

Colposcopy is a simple, 10- to 15-minute procedure that is painless and is performed in our office. You are positioned on the examination table like you are for a Pap smear, and an acetic acid (such as common table vinegar) is placed on the cervix.

Dr. Marden will use a colposcope — a large, electric microscope that is positioned approximately 30 cm from the vagina — to view your cervix. A bright light on the end of the colposcope lets Dr. Marden clearly see the cervix so he is able to select the best area for a biopsy. If abnormal areas are identified, a sample of the cervical cells is taken and submitted to a laboratory for evaluation.

Intrauterine Device (IUD)
For treatment of:

  • Birth control options

Intrauterine Device (IUD)

Dr. Marden will discuss the pros and cons of these options with you so that you can determine the best birth control method for your situation.

ParaGard is an intrauterine device (IUD) for birth control that does not contain synthetic sex hormones. The ParaGard IUD is made of flexible plastic and copper, crafted into the shape of a small “T.” It is a little over an inch long, with fine copper wire wrapped around the stem and arms. ParaGard does not contain latex. The IUD must be placed inside the uterus by a doctor, where it may remain for up to ten years. ParaGard starts working as soon as it is inserted into the uterus. The IUD works continuously, without having to take a pill.

Visit www.paragard.com for more information.

Mirena is an intrauterine (IUD) contraceptive that delivers small amounts of hormone directly to the uterus. Made of soft, flexible plastic, it is put in place by your healthcare provider during an office visit. Mirena is birth control that lasts as long as you want, for up to 5 years, and is also approved to treat heavy periods in women who choose intrauterine contraception. Mirena works continuously, without having to take a pill.

Skyla is a hormone releasing IUD that is highly effective in preventing pregnancy for up to three years.  It is a small flexible plastic t-shaped device that is placed in the uterus by your doctor in his office.

Gynecological ultrasound imaging is useful to help detect and diagnose any fertility or reproductive issues as well as provide additional informationto resolve issues of pelvic pain and abnormal vaginal bleeding.

A typical pelvic sonogram requires fewer than 30 minutes. However, the length of time may vary greatly depending on how easily the necessary information is obtained and on the complexity of the findings.

For treatment of:

  • Annual physical exams,  Birth control options, Abnormal bleeding, Abdominal and/or pelvic pain

Embrace the best you.
